Unique Student Identifier (USI)
All students undertaking nationally recognised VET qualifications are required to obtain a Unique Student Identifier (USI). A USI is a personal education number that creates an online record of a student's nationally recognised training and qualifications completed across Australia.
Under national VET legislation, an RTO cannot issue a qualification or Statement of Attainment unless the student has provided a valid USI. Students will therefore be required to create and provide their USI upon commencement of their VET course.
Further information about the USI, including how to create one, is available through the
Unique Student Identifier (USI) Portal.
Work Experience
At Yarrabilba State Secondary College, work experience opportunities are available for senior students to support their transition from school into further education, training, and employment pathways.
Work experience provides students with valuable opportunities to:
- develop an understanding of how classroom learning connects to real workplaces
- gain insight into workplace expectations, responsibilities, and professional behaviour
- explore potential career pathways and industries
- build confidence, independence, and communication skills
- increase motivation to continue further study, training, or employment
- develop practical employability and workplace skills in authentic settings.
School-Based Apprenticeships and Traineeships (SATs)
Senior students at Yarrabilba State Secondary College can access nationally recognised training through School-Based Apprenticeships and Traineeships (SATs) registered with the Queensland Government.
SATs allow students to combine paid employment with school studies and vocational training while working towards their Queensland Certificate of Education (QCE). Students undertake both on-the-job and off-the-job training, providing practical industry experience and valuable workplace skills.
Participating in a SAT gives students the opportunity to:
- begin a career pathway while still at school
- gain nationally recognised qualifications and industry experience
- develop workplace skills and professional networks
- earn an income while completing their studies
- transition more smoothly into further training, apprenticeships, traineeships, or employment after school.
A flexible senior schooling program supports students to successfully balance their school commitments, vocational training, and workplace responsibilities.
