At Yarrabilba State Secondary College, we are committed to ensuring all students have equitable access to learning and assessment opportunities.
Access Arrangements and Reasonable Adjustments (AARA) are available for eligible students whose ability to participate in assessment may be affected by:
- Disability
- Mental health concerns
- Chronic or long-term medical conditions
- Temporary illness or injury
- Unforeseen circumstances or misadventure
AARA provisions are designed to reduce barriers so students can demonstrate their knowledge and skills fairly and equitably.
Adjustments may include:
- Additional time for assessment
- Rest breaks
- Adjustments to assessment conditions
- Assistive technology or specialised equipment
- Alternative formats for assessment responses
All AARA applications are managed in line with Queensland Curriculum and Assessment Authority (QCAA) policies and procedures.
Eligibility for AARA
AARA may be available for students experiencing:
- Permanent conditions
- Temporary conditions
- Intermittent conditions
Please note that students are not eligible for AARA due to:
- Unfamiliarity with the English language
- Teacher absence or teacher-related difficulties
- Matters that could have been avoided by the student
- Family holidays or other personal choices
Applying for AARA
Students wishing to apply for AARA are required to complete the school's AARA Application Process.
The application pack includes:
- AARA Guidelines
- AARA Application Form
- Medical documentation templates
Applications must include relevant supporting medical documentation. Please be aware that applications cannot be approved without appropriate supporting evidence.
The application process is as follows:
- Students and families access the AARA Application Pack via the College website
- The application form is completed and supporting documentation attached
- Applications are submitted to Student Services
- The Senior Schooling Team reviews the application and liaises with relevant support staff where required
- Applications are reviewed and approved by the Principal
- Students, families, and teachers are notified of the outcome
Early applications are strongly encouraged, particularly for long-term conditions, to ensure appropriate support can be implemented in a timely manner.
