Software Requirements

Access to the department's ICT network is provided only if the mobile device meets the department's security requirements which, at a minimum, requires that anti-virus software has been installed, is running and is kept updated on the device. 

Software installation is the responsibility of the student/parent/caregiver. Valid licences are required for all software present on the device. It is recommended that every device has the following software installed.

Virus Protection​

Up-to-date full version of a trusted antivirus software. The laptop won't connect to our network if it fails a virus software check. Therefore, a reputable antivirus software is a must. There are many different virus protections options available.

Windows 10 has built-in real-time antivirus named Windows Defender. Defender is sufficient to pass the virus software check.

Not supported: trial versions of any anti-virus, AVG, Avast, Kapersky, Bitdefender and Windows Firewall.

Office Suite

eg Office 365 (free to all students)

'Microsoft Office' allows students to install the Office suite of software (e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint etc.) for FREE. Instructions to download, install and activate this software are available from https://learningplace.education.qld.gov.au/microsoft-office-software

Microsoft OneDrive

First introduced in 2019, OneDrive is an online data storage location dedicated and secured for Education Queensland schools. OneDrive allows students to save their files securely in the Microsoft cloud infrastructure. Students can access their data using any device, giving unprecedented flexibility to complete learning tasks as they move between school and home.

As Yarrabilba State Secondary College subscribes to the Adobe Software Agreement, licenses for this software will be made available to students if their selected subject requires it.

Access to Adobe CC expires at the end of the year that the product was purchased. It is recommended to only be installed on those laptops that meet the "recommended specifications" listed in the hardware requirements.

This software is required if you are studying ICT, Design, Media or Visual Art.

Computer Aided Design (CAD)The installation of this software is provided by the CAD teachers. Please see one of them for installation instructions or further information.
